Mechanically processed and treated with soda ash to reach a very high swelling capacity, which binds the iron ore fines. Green compressive strength is excellent, the binding force is good, and drop number improves immediately on a lower addition of 1.2%.
Green and dry compressive strength are both excellent, with good binding force, so the ball holds its shape after drying as well as wet on the disc.
Free swelling volume 35 ml by ASTM D5890, PWA 650 minimum at 2 hours, and methylene blue adsorption 380 mg/g minimum to the VDG standard. The montmorillonite value is high.
The silica percentage is low, so less inert material dilutes the ore charge: the yield rises and the TFe percentage improves.

Binding iron ore fines into green and fired pellets for blast furnace and DRI feed. It is treated with soda ash to swell strongly, and that swelling binds the fines. It drops straight into standard balling drums and discs.
Pellet-Maker™ goes in at 1.2% by weight of the pellet feed. At that addition, drop number improves straight away and yield rises, with better TFe.
