Pileman®: bentonite powder for piling and diaphragm walls

High-yield sodium bentonite for slurry support in fresh water. No polymer in it, and made to work with one.

A diaphragm-wall clamshell grab resting on site

Description

Pileman® is a high-yield sodium-activated bentonite, made by extrusion, for bored piling, diaphragm walls and similar vertical drilling. Mixed in fresh water it gives a thixotropic slurry that holds the wall of the bore, lays a thin filter cake for low fluid loss and holds the cuttings when pumping stops. Hard water is treated with soda ash first. Brackish water takes Pileman® BH.

What goes wrong on site

What you see on site

What this does about it

The bore wall starts to cave.
The slurry presses on the wall and a thin filter cake keeps the water in the bore.
Cuttings settle when pumping stops.
The slurry sets to a gel and holds them; stir it and it flows again.
The ground changes partway down the pile.
Add our polymer or additives instead of changing the bentonite.
The site water is hard.
Treat it with soda ash first, then Pileman® goes in as usual.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Pileman® used for?

Pileman® is a high-yield sodium-activated bentonite, made by extrusion, for bored piling, diaphragm walls and similar vertical drilling in fresh water. Its slurry holds the wall of the bore.

How much Pileman® goes into one m³ of slurry?

50 kg in 1,000 litres of fresh water. No ageing is needed: the slurry is ready to use within 20 minutes of mixing.

Why price bentonite per m³ of slurry and not per tonne?

Because your pile pays for slurry, not for bags. A good bentonite needs a lower dose, and it seeps less into the ground, so the bore makes fewer cuttings and needs less slurry to finish. A cleaner bore also takes less concrete to fill. That total, not the bag price, is your real cost.

What if my site water is brackish?

Pileman® BH is specially designed for drilling where the water is saline. With soda ash pre-mixed into the water, mix it straight into brackish water up to 5,000 ppm. Drills in up to 16,000 ppm conditions when hydrated in fresh water. Above that, send us a water analysis. Hard water: pre-mix soda ash (light) into the water, then use Pileman®.

Does Pileman® contain polymer?

No. Pileman® contains no polymer but is designed to work with one: if the ground changes, add our polymers and additives instead of changing the bentonite.

How is Pileman® supplied?

In 25 kg bags, stretch-wrapped on wooden pallets, or in 1,300 kg jumbo bags. For pricing, lead time and shipping to your port, ask for a quotation.

Does Pileman® meet API 13A and OCMA DFCP-4?

Yes. Pileman® has been tested to API 13A and OCMA DFCP-4 specifications, and it is made under an ISO 9001:2015 quality system.

Who supplies Pileman®?

Amrfeo Private Limited, a manufacturer since 1994, makes and exports Pileman®, supplying buyers across the Gulf, Europe and Asia. The bentonite is mined and processed at our plant at Bhuj, Kutch, Gujarat, under ISO 9001:2015.
